Chinese phonemaker Gionee has launched the S6s priced at Rs 17,999.

Its the selfie-focused addition to the S6 line-up. While there is still no news of the S6 Pro or the flagship S8, all attention today is on the S6s. The ‘s’ in the model name stands for selfie and will take on Oppo’s range of selfie-focused smartphones.

The S6s features a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass protection. It also has a metal unibody design like the Redmi Note 3.

The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek 6753 octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 3GB of RAM.

The phone comes with 32GB of onboard memory with an option to expand it up to 128GB via a microSD card.

The forte of this phone however, is its front camera, which Gionee says, captures the perfect selfie. It features a 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 wide-aperture lens and selfie flash. On the back, it has a 13-megapixel f/2.0 camera with Sony’s image sensor.

There’s also a fingerprint sensor in the back.

The phone takes power from a 3150mAh battery and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Amigos 3.2 UI.

Gionee has tied up with Amazon India to sell the phone online, but it will also be available in offline markets.

Priced at Rs 17,999 the Gionee S6s will take on the Oppo’s ‘selfie-expert’, the F1s. Priced similarly, the Oppo F1s features a massive 16-megapixel front camera as compared to the humble 8-megapixel offering from Gionee.

However, the Gionee S6s features a newer processor and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow as compared to the F1s which runs Android Lollipop and features an older MediaTek processor.
